The references to yoga are available in 'Upanishads' and 'Puranas' composed by Indian Aryans in the later Vedic and post- Vedic period. The main credit for systematizing yoga goes to Patanjali who wrote 'Yoga Sutra', two thousand Years ago. He described the principles of the full eight fold yogic discipline. He composed the treatise in brief code words known as 'Sutras'. 'Yoga Sutra' is the most important basic text on Yoga. It is through this basic treatise that the essential message of yoga spread throughout the world.

Aim of Yoga is the attainment of the physical, mental and spiritual health.

Meditation

Meditation is a holistic discipline during which time the practitioner trains his or her mind in order to realize some benefit.

Meditation is generally a subjective, personal experience and most often done without any external involvement, except perhaps prayer beads to count prayers.

Meditation often involves invoking and cultivating a feeling or internal state, such as compassion, or attending to some focal point, etc.

The term can refer to the process of reaching this state, as well as to the state itself.
There are hundreds of specific types of meditation.

The word, 'meditation,' means many things dependent upon the context of its use. People practice meditation for many reasons within the context of their culture.

Meditation is a component of many religions, and has been practiced since antiquity, especially by monastics.
